A V-ring, also known as a V-ring seal or axial shaft seal, is an elastomer seal that rotates with the shaft and seals axially against a counterface. The V-ring prevents dirt, dust, water, or oil from entering the system and protects bearings and seals from contamination. The counterface can be formed by the housing itself, a cover, a plate, or, for example, the outer ring of a bearing. Due to their simple installation and reliable performance, V-rings are widely used in hydraulic and mechanical systems.

A V-ring (V-seal) is a shaft-mounted, elastomer rotary dust seal that protects bearings. It clamps to the shaft while the sealing lip runs against a counterface (housing/cover).
At standstill, the lip presses against the counterface. As speed increases, centrifugal force reduces contact pressure. Above ~15–20 m/s the lip can lift off, so the V-ring transitions to a gap/labyrinth action while its flinger effect repels contaminants. Friction losses rise roughly linearly up to ~10 m/s, then decrease; by ~15–20 m/s they approach near-zero.
