Spherical plain bearings, also known as spherical bushings, rod end bearings, or joint bearings, are used in applications where rotating or oscillating movements occur under radial or axial loads. They are ideal for use in hydraulic cylinders, mechanical engineering, and other mechanical systems with medium loads. These bearings ensure smooth motion, reduce wear, and can, depending on the type, be used maintenance-free thanks to the PTFE sliding surface combined with a hard-chromed raceway. Spherical plain bearings with a steel-on-steel configuration offer higher load capacities, while PTFE variants excel in maintenance-free operation and corrosion resistance.

Spherical plain bearings (rod ends / joint bearings) are widely used, e.g. in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, and are suitable for medium radial loads. Hard-chrome on PTFE (self-lubricating) designs must not be greased for optimal performance and service life. Maintenance-free designs generally have lower load ratings than steel-on-steel.
